StandUp For Kids: Helping Homeless and At-Risk Youth
Outreach counselors walk around the streets and libraries in Chinatown and Benning Road area to connect with homeless youth up to 25 years old. Last year, we worked with youth more than 350 times and our volunteers logged more than 2,750 hours.
The greatest needs for homeless kids are continuous caring and real support. StandUp For Kids befriends homeless kids and lets them know that caring adults are concerned about their well-being. This critical bonding is the first step toward helping these kids get off the streets and live a better life.
StandUp is also beginning a new mentoring program with homeless elementary age students to help them understand and tackle the challenges they are facing from such a young age.
